(Please note this month's meeting is WEDNESDAY night, NOT the usual Tuesday night.)
“The PhantomFocus™ System
(PFS™) addresses the sonic
response of the Acoustic Trinity™
— the relationship between the
speaker, the listener, and the room
— as a single entity, as if it were a
new speaker being designed on a
test bench in an audio lab,
rendering the ultimate monitoring
experience. Attempting to
optimize these three elements
independently rather than by
their sum in a monitoring system
is tantamount to acoustic sacrilege
and challenges the laws of
physics.” — Carl Tatz
EARS is delighted this month to meet with renowned acoustician and designer Carl Tatz. Carl is head of Carl Tatz Design
in Nashville and developer of the PhantomFocus System™, a series and process of techniques, proprietary protocols, hardware, and software, designed to optimize monitor systems.
Full and accurate frequency response is achieved by incorporating several elements that can include: speaker/listener position calculations; proper speaker stands; damping and isolation devices; subwoofer systems; laser alignment; 360 degree phase control (all-pass filter); crossovers; and corrective equalization. The success of the system is only limited by the room acoustics evaluation that precedes the process.
You will hear and experience PhantomFocus for yourself as Carl recently worked with Soundscape Studios owner/engineer Michael Kolar to re-configure the main control room with the system. Carl will also provide an educational and informative lecture with slides on how the system works so you can take some home some valuable tips and ideas. This is definitely one of those EARS meetings you will not want to miss.
